Nama Alfarabiband di ambil dari nama seorang tokoh ilmuan islam Abu Nasr Muhammad Ibnu Muhammad Ibnu Tarkhan Ibnu Uzlaq Al Farabi atau lebih dikenali sebagai Ibnu Alfarabi pencipta alat muzik bertali dan penulis kitab Al-Muziqo Al-Kabir. Pemakaian Serban bermula daripada permintaan peminat dan kehendak Alfarabiband dalam mengikut contoh Ibnu Alfarabi yang memakai serban.
